On Mai Yamani
You know how sometimes you see some article and it triggers a train of thought because you know something doesn't feel right, but somehow you can't put your finger on it? I felt this way whilst reading Mai Yamani's article on the Guardian CiF site. What exactly does she mean by the following sentence?
"The case's outcome, bizarre and deviant even from the standpoint of Islamic law, is hardly unique."
Does Yamani even know what Islamic law is for her to relate this to the system in her country? Does she, like most of the offspring of Saudi Arabia's obscenely rich elite, now see herself more as British or American by virtue of her elite education and 'modern lifestyle'? So many questions....I think I need to go read one of her books and see what she says.
